North Jakarta KPKP will Develop 40 Urban Farming Locations

This year, North Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency will develop 40 urban farming locations in 6 sub-districts.
We hope urban farming can be also developed in fishermen villages
North Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency Head, Unang Rustanto conveyed, 20 of 40 urban farming locations are green alleys where the plants are planted using soil media and water media. While 20 other points are hydroponic locations where it uses water as planting medium.
"We hope urban farming can be also developed in fishermen villages," he added, Tuesday (2/16).

For making green alley, his side will provide seeds and planting media, as well as training to residents.
"This way, plants will be grow well and harvest will be abundant, thus later residents can take care of the plants independently," he said.
Green alley's existence is not only make environment looks more beautiful and clean, but also it is used as a model for urban farming. His side will survey and review the locations to ensure it meets the requirements for green alley. One of the requirements is the location must get enough sunlight.
"There must be direct sunlight, as well as local residents who are interested or willing to take care of plants. Its location must be in environment that is not crowded with vehicles thus plants are not damaged," he explained.
